Armitage and the surrounding villages

Canal, river and a village built in several different eras

Armitage with Handsacre runs along the Trent and Mersey Canal and the Trent valley, and the housing reflects a long history of building in stages. There is older village and canal-side property with solid walls and irregular openings, substantial mid-century estate housing, and pockets of more recent development, all within a small area.

The valley setting matters. Low-lying, damp winter air is hard on tired glazing: condensation forms readily, sits on cills and reveals, and where sealed units have already failed the problem is constant from November through to March. Frames that were fitted cheaply (foamed rather than packed, siliconed rather than sealed and finished) show it here faster than they would on higher, drier ground.

The other common Armitage enquiry is the conservatory. A polycarbonate or glass roof in a damp valley is a poor combination: heavy condensation, noise in rain and a room that is cold from autumn to spring. Replacing that roof with an insulated tiled warm roof brings the space back inside the heated house. We build those roofs ourselves as a Eurocell approved tile installer rather than handing them to a roofing sub-contractor.

We have covered Armitage and Handsacre since Draycote Windows started in January 2015, with a team of eight, each with 20 to 25 or more years of experience, working in Eurocell and premium Rehau UPVC and Smarts aluminium.

Armitage with Handsacre sits along the A513 between Lichfield and Rugeley, north of our Tamworth base. It is part of our regular coverage and surveys are booked into the normal working week.

Older village and canal-side property

Solid walls, deep reveals and openings that need measuring and making rather than a stock frame.

Mid-century estate housing

Similar-age homes where original or first-replacement glazing has reached the end of its life together.

Valley-floor damp

Persistent winter condensation is the number one complaint we hear from this village.

Conservatories and rear extensions

Common across the village, and the main source of our warm roof work in Armitage and Handsacre.

Why Armitage calls us

A local firm, not a national sales operation

We understand damp valley conditions

Packing, sealing and finishing are what stop condensation and water ingress. That is where the care goes on an Armitage job.

As a Eurocell approved tile installer we build the roof ourselves: one team, one responsibility, one guarantee.

10-year IWA insurance-backed guarantee, Assured registered, £10,000,000 public liability insurance.

Local property, local problems

What the Trent valley does to Armitage windows

Damp air, canal-side positions and a mixed-age housing stock produce a fairly consistent set of complaints here.

Streaming windows all winter

Failed sealed units and cold frames in damp valley air produce condensation every morning, then mould on the reveals and cills.

Rotten or swollen timber

Remaining timber frames in older village property suffer badly in sustained wet weather, particularly at the cill.

Conservatories written off as storage

Polycarbonate roofs discolour, leak at the bars and offer no insulation. In this village they are cold from October onwards.

Irregular openings in canal-side property

Deep reveals and out-of-square apertures need a proper survey and made-to-measure frames.

Draughts around cheap previous fits

Foam in place of packing and silicone in place of a clean seal is the most common thing we take out here.

Doors that stick and stop locking

Damp plus decades of use is hard on hinges and multipoint locks. Once the door needs a lift, the frame usually needs work too.

Our process

Five steps, the same on every job in Armitage

Step 1

Free verbal quote

Call or send the form and we talk the job through. A verbal quote costs nothing. A written quote is £25, deducted from your invoice if you go ahead.

Step 2

Survey at your house

We come out, measure properly and look at the existing openings, lintels and cills rather than guessing from a doorstep glance.

Step 3

Fixed price, next day

Your price comes back the next working day. It is fixed. We have never added money to a job once it has started.

Step 4

Manufacture and fit

Frames are made in Eurocell, Rehau or Smarts profile, then fitted by our own team of eight in sign-written vans and full uniform.

Step 5

Guarantee registered

The installation is registered for a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee through IWA, covering the workmanship and the frames.

Questions from Armitage

Armitage: straight answers

Do you serve Armitage and Handsacre?
Yes. Armitage with Handsacre is one of our regular areas, alongside Rugeley, Lichfield, Burntwood, Fradley, Tamworth, Sutton Coldfield, Shenstone and Little Aston plus the surrounding Staffordshire villages.
How fast can you reach Armitage?
It is a run north from Tamworth via Lichfield along the A513, so surveys go into the normal working week and your written quote follows the next working day.
What does it cost in Armitage?
We price the job rather than the postcode. A verbal quote is free; a written quote is £25 and is deducted from your final invoice if you go ahead.
Do you provide emergency call-outs in Armitage?
We are an installation company, not a 24-hour emergency service. Ring 07597 125590 during our hours (Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm, Saturday 10am to 2pm) and we will be honest about what we can do.
Will new windows stop my condensation?
Where the cause is failed sealed units and cold, poorly sealed frames, modern units in properly packed frames make a substantial difference. We will tell you at survey if we think something else is contributing.
Can you replace a conservatory roof here?
Yes. We build insulated tiled warm roofs ourselves as a Eurocell approved tile installer, which is the usual fix for a cold, noisy conservatory in this village.
What guarantee comes with the work?
A 10-year insurance-backed guarantee through IWA covering the workmanship and the frames. We are Assured registered and carry £10,000,000 public liability insurance.
How long are the lead times?
A minimum of 10 weeks from order, and longer at busier times of year. We tell you the real timescale before you commit.
How can I pay?
Cash or bank transfer. No credit cards and no finance. Deposits vary with the size and type of job.
Do you take on commercial work in Armitage?
Yes, we install glazing and doors for commercial premises as well as domestic properties.
