Armitage and the surrounding villages
Armitage with Handsacre runs along the Trent and Mersey Canal and the Trent valley, and the housing reflects a long history of building in stages. There is older village and canal-side property with solid walls and irregular openings, substantial mid-century estate housing, and pockets of more recent development, all within a small area.
The valley setting matters. Low-lying, damp winter air is hard on tired glazing: condensation forms readily, sits on cills and reveals, and where sealed units have already failed the problem is constant from November through to March. Frames that were fitted cheaply (foamed rather than packed, siliconed rather than sealed and finished) show it here faster than they would on higher, drier ground.
The other common Armitage enquiry is the conservatory. A polycarbonate or glass roof in a damp valley is a poor combination: heavy condensation, noise in rain and a room that is cold from autumn to spring. Replacing that roof with an insulated tiled warm roof brings the space back inside the heated house. We build those roofs ourselves as a Eurocell approved tile installer rather than handing them to a roofing sub-contractor.
We have covered Armitage and Handsacre since Draycote Windows started in January 2015, with a team of eight, each with 20 to 25 or more years of experience, working in Eurocell and premium Rehau UPVC and Smarts aluminium.
Armitage with Handsacre sits along the A513 between Lichfield and Rugeley, north of our Tamworth base. It is part of our regular coverage and surveys are booked into the normal working week.
Solid walls, deep reveals and openings that need measuring and making rather than a stock frame.
Similar-age homes where original or first-replacement glazing has reached the end of its life together.
Persistent winter condensation is the number one complaint we hear from this village.
Common across the village, and the main source of our warm roof work in Armitage and Handsacre.

Local property, local problems
Damp air, canal-side positions and a mixed-age housing stock produce a fairly consistent set of complaints here.
Failed sealed units and cold frames in damp valley air produce condensation every morning, then mould on the reveals and cills.
Remaining timber frames in older village property suffer badly in sustained wet weather, particularly at the cill.
Polycarbonate roofs discolour, leak at the bars and offer no insulation. In this village they are cold from October onwards.
Deep reveals and out-of-square apertures need a proper survey and made-to-measure frames.
Foam in place of packing and silicone in place of a clean seal is the most common thing we take out here.
Damp plus decades of use is hard on hinges and multipoint locks. Once the door needs a lift, the frame usually needs work too.
Our process
Step 1
Call or send the form and we talk the job through. A verbal quote costs nothing. A written quote is £25, deducted from your invoice if you go ahead.
Step 2
We come out, measure properly and look at the existing openings, lintels and cills rather than guessing from a doorstep glance.
Step 3
Your price comes back the next working day. It is fixed. We have never added money to a job once it has started.
Step 4
Frames are made in Eurocell, Rehau or Smarts profile, then fitted by our own team of eight in sign-written vans and full uniform.
Step 5
The installation is registered for a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee through IWA, covering the workmanship and the frames.
