The service
Double glazing is two panes of glass separated by a sealed cavity. The cavity is the insulation. When the seal fails, the cavity fills with moist air, the pane mists up, and the window stops doing the job you paid for, which is why a blown unit is not a cosmetic issue.
Gary spent time in a glass shop making double-glazed units before moving into fitting, so on this job the specification advice is from someone who has built the product, not read the brochure. That covers unit make-up, obscure and toughened options, and which frame the glass should sit in.
We supply and install across every frame type we fit: Eurocell UPVC, premium Rehau UPVC and Smarts aluminium. Domestic and commercial premises alike, across south Staffordshire, since January 2015.
Condensation between the panes means the seal has gone. The unit has stopped insulating and only replacement fixes it.
The biggest single comfort upgrade available to most older homes, in heat and in noise together.
Old units and old frames underperform badly against anything made today. Often the frames are due at the same time.
Sealed double glazing cuts a meaningful amount of traffic and neighbour noise out of the room.
What it costs to leave it
Misted glass gets treated as an eyesore rather than a fault. It is a fault. The unit has lost its seal, the insulating cavity is compromised, and the window is now performing closer to single glazing than to what you paid for.
Every heating bill from now until the unit is replaced carries the cost. It does not improve and it does not stabilise.
Cold internal glass and cold frames condense moisture from the room, which lands on the reveal and the sill and turns to black mould in the corners.
Persistent condensation perishes plaster, lifts paint and stains wallpaper. Replacing decoration always costs more than people expect.
Our process

Step 3
Units and frames made to your measurements. Price fixed at order and never added to. Minimum 10 weeks from order.
Step 4
Old glass or frames out, new units bedded and beaded correctly, frames sealed inside and out, everything cleaned down.
Step 5
Each opener is operated and adjusted with you present, then the work is registered for the 10-year IWA insurance-backed guarantee.
What you get
A sealed, intact cavity keeps the warmth you have paid for on the inside of the glass, right through a Staffordshire winter.
Sealed double glazing takes the edge off traffic, aircraft and neighbours: especially on the main routes through town.
New units, properly bedded and drained, in frames that are square. Misting comes back when the fitting is wrong, not when the glass is new.
Warmer internal glass surfaces mean far less moisture forming on the pane, the sill and the reveal.
Fixed-price quotes, turned around the next working day, never added to once the job has started.

In detail
Double glazing is a system: the glass, the spacer, the seal, the frame and the fitting. A weakness in any one of them shows up as the same symptom: cold, noise or misting.
Two panes are separated by a spacer bar around the perimeter and sealed to lock a dry, insulating cavity inside. That perimeter seal is the whole ball game, while it holds, the unit performs; once it fails, moisture gets in and mists the cavity.
Because Gary made units in a glass shop for years, we know what separates a well-made unit from a cheap one, and we specify accordingly rather than taking whatever arrives.
Eurocell UPVC is our standard system and suits the majority of domestic replacements. Rehau is the premium UPVC option for exposed elevations, larger openings and front elevations where appearance carries more weight.
Smarts aluminium is specified where slim sightlines and large panes matter: modern extensions, picture windows and commercial frontages.
Obscure glazing for bathrooms and any window overlooking a neighbour. Toughened safety glass where building regulations require it: near doors, at low level and in full-height glazing.
Where a window is a designated fire escape, escape hinges are specified at survey. These decisions are made before ordering, not improvised on fitting day.
Modern glazing seals a house up tightly, and moisture generated inside has to go somewhere. Trickle ventilation is specified where it is needed so that solving the cold glass problem does not create a damp problem elsewhere in the room.
If you already have persistent condensation, we will tell you honestly whether new glazing will fix it or whether ventilation is the real issue.
If the frame is sound, square and modern, replacing the failed unit alone is a sensible, economical repair and we will say so.
If the frame has dropped, the hardware is worn or the profile is decades old, reglazing is money spent twice. We would rather lose the smaller job than sell you the wrong one.
We handle glazing and door installations for commercial premises as well as houses, working around opening hours where possible so the business keeps trading.
Note that we do not work on listed or heritage properties, domestic or commercial, that is specialist work with its own consent route.
