Lichfield and the surrounding villages

Lichfield houses are not all the same, and neither are the jobs

Lichfield is a small city with an unusually wide range of housing for its size, and that matters far more than most window companies admit. A sales rep working from a price list treats a 1970s semi in Boley Park and a Victorian bay-fronted terrace off Beacon Street as the same job with different measurements. They are not. The openings behave differently, the lintels are different, the cills sit at different depths, and the finish that looks right on one looks wrong on the other.

We have been installing across Lichfield and the surrounding villages since Draycote Windows started in January 2015. In that time our eight-man team, every one of them with 20 to 25 or more years on the tools, has fitted into solid brick, cavity walls, rendered elevations, timber-framed extensions and everything in between around the city.

Practically, that means we survey before we price. We look at the reveal, the lintel above it, the state of the cill and whether the previous installer packed the frame properly or simply foamed the gap and walked away. The price you get back the next working day reflects the house in front of us, not an average of every house in Staffordshire.

Lichfield also has a large conservation area covering the historic core and parts of the streets running out from it. Where a property sits inside it, or is listed, the local authority may have a view on what can be installed. We will tell you plainly if that is likely to affect your job at survey stage rather than after you have paid a deposit, it is your responsibility to confirm any consent with Lichfield District Council, but we would rather you knew early.

We are based in Tamworth, roughly eight miles east of Lichfield on the A51 and A5127, so Lichfield surveys are part of our normal working week rather than a special trip. Quotes are turned around the next working day.

The city centre and Cathedral Close

Older, often period frontages where the look of the frame matters as much as the thermal performance. We talk you through profile choices before anything is ordered.

Boley Park, Darwin Park and Curborough

Later 20th-century and modern estate housing where original units are now at end of life: misted units, tired hinges and dated white frames.

Streethay, Fradley edge and the villages

Newer development and village properties out towards the A38, all inside our normal Lichfield working area.

Conservatories and rear extensions

Very common across Lichfield's suburban estates, and the single biggest source of the warm roof work we do here.

Why Lichfield calls us

A local firm, not a national sales operation

A Lichfield job is a short run for us

Tamworth to Lichfield is a straightforward drive on the A51, so surveys get booked into the normal week and the team is not fighting motorway traffic to reach you.

Quotes back the next working day

You are not waiting a fortnight to find out what the work costs. Verbal quotes are free; a written quote is £25 and comes straight off your final invoice.

Fixed price, never added to

The figure we quote is the figure you pay. We have never added money to a job once it has started, and that policy does not change by postcode.

Our own team, in uniform, in sign-written vans

The team of eight who turn up in Lichfield are our own, in uniform and sign-written vans.

10-year insurance-backed guarantee

Every installation is registered with IWA, covering workmanship and frames. We are Assured registered, the competent persons scheme equivalent to FENSA and Certass.

Manufacturer-approved products

Eurocell and premium Rehau UPVC profile and Smarts aluminium, and we are a Eurocell approved tile installer for warm roofs.

Local property, local problems

What actually goes wrong on Lichfield properties

These are the recurring faults we are called out to look at across the city. None of them are unique to Lichfield, but the mix here is distinctive because of how the housing stock is split between period property and 1960s-to-1990s estate building.

Failed units in first-generation double glazing

A great deal of Lichfield's estate housing was glazed or re-glazed in the 1990s and early 2000s. Those sealed units are now well past their working life: misting between the panes, condensation that never clears and a noticeable cold draw off the glass in winter.

Conservatories nobody can use

Polycarbonate and glass conservatory roofs are everywhere on Lichfield's suburban estates. In July the room is unusable, in January it is freezing, and rain on the roof drowns out the television. A tiled warm roof puts that floor space back into the house.

Period reveals and deep cills

Older Lichfield properties frequently have deep reveals, non-standard openings and cills that have taken decades of weather. Fitting a standard-sized frame and filling the difference with foam is how you end up with damp patches and draughts within two winters.

Doors that have dropped or stopped locking

Original builder-fitted doors on the estates have usually had their hinges and multipoint locks worked hard. Once a door needs lifting to lock it, the frame is normally carrying the problem too.

Damp, cold weather on exposed elevations

Staffordshire weather is wet more often than it is extreme. Sustained wind-driven rain finds any badly sealed frame, and the north and west elevations of Lichfield houses tend to show it first.

Cheap work that needs redoing

A recurring call-out: frames fitted without proper packing, trims siliconed over a bad cut, or a conservatory roof loaded onto a frame that was never built to carry it. We would rather quote the job properly once.

Our process

Five steps, the same on every job in Lichfield

Step 1

Free verbal quote

Call or send the form and we talk the job through. A verbal quote costs nothing. A written quote is £25, deducted from your invoice if you go ahead.

Step 2

Survey at your house

We come out, measure properly and look at the existing openings, lintels and cills rather than guessing from a doorstep glance.

Step 3

Fixed price, next day

Your price comes back the next working day. It is fixed. We have never added money to a job once it has started.

Step 4

Manufacture and fit

Frames are made in Eurocell, Rehau or Smarts profile, then fitted by our own team of eight in sign-written vans and full uniform.

Step 5

Guarantee registered

The installation is registered for a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee through IWA, covering the workmanship and the frames.

Questions from Lichfield

Lichfield: straight answers

Do you cover Lichfield?
Yes. Lichfield is one of our core areas, alongside Burntwood, Rugeley, Fradley, Tamworth, Sutton Coldfield, Shenstone, Little Aston and Armitage, plus the surrounding Staffordshire villages.
How quickly can you get out to Lichfield?
We are based in Tamworth, a short run along the A51, so Lichfield surveys are booked into our normal working week. Whatever date we agree for the survey, your quote comes back the next working day after it.
What does a quote cost in Lichfield?
A verbal quote is free. A written quote is £25, and that £25 is deducted from your final invoice if you go ahead with the work. Prices are the same in Lichfield as anywhere else we cover: we do not price by postcode.
Do you offer emergency call-outs in Lichfield?
We are an installation company rather than a 24-hour emergency service. Our office hours are Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm and Saturday 10am to 2pm. Call 07597 125590 during those hours and we will tell you honestly what we can do and when.
What guarantee do I get on a Lichfield installation?
A 10-year insurance-backed guarantee through IWA, covering the workmanship and the window frames. We are also Assured registered, the competent persons scheme equivalent to FENSA and Certass, and carry £10,000,000 public liability insurance.
How long will I wait for my windows in Lichfield?
Plan on a minimum of 10 weeks from order. At busier times of year it runs longer, and we will give you the honest timescale before you commit rather than after.
Can the price go up once you have started?
No. Every quote is a fixed price and we have never added money to a job after starting it.
How do I pay?
Cash or bank transfer. We do not take credit cards and we do not offer finance. Deposits vary with the size and type of job.
My house is in the Lichfield conservation area. Can you still help?
In most cases yes, but the council may have a view on what can be installed on a property inside the conservation area or on a listed building. We will flag it at survey and you can confirm the position with Lichfield District Council before anything is ordered.
Do you take on commercial work in Lichfield?
Yes. We handle glazing and door installations for commercial premises as well as domestic work, with £10,000,000 public liability insurance in place.
