Fradley has changed enormously over the last twenty-five years. What was a small village near the canal junction now includes large modern estates, with Fradley Park and the A38 corridor bringing steady development alongside the older village core and the canal-side properties at Fradley Junction.
That newness changes the work. In an older town we are usually replacing something that has failed. In Fradley we are just as often upgrading something that was fitted to a developer's budget: a thin front door with a builder's lock, patio doors where the household actually wanted bi-folds, or a rear elevation crying out to be opened up properly.
The other Fradley pattern is the conservatory that came a few years after the house. Add a glazed or polycarbonate roof to a modern, well-insulated home and the contrast is stark, the rest of the house holds heat and that one room does not.
