Weather from the Chase on one side, the Trent valley on the other

Rugeley sits in an unusual spot: Cannock Chase rises to the south-west and the River Trent runs along the north-east. That geography shows up in the housing. Properties on the higher ground towards Etching Hill catch wind and driven rain from the Chase, while the lower streets nearer the Trent deal with damp air and heavier ground moisture for much of the winter.

For glazing, the difference is not academic. A frame that was never properly packed and sealed will show it far faster on an exposed Rugeley elevation than on a sheltered inner-city street. Most of the remedial work we are called to look at in the town comes back to installation quality rather than the product itself: unpacked frames, silicone smeared over a bad cut, trims that were never scribed in.

The town's housing mixes older Brereton and town-centre property with substantial mid-century estate building and more recent development on former industrial land following the closure of the power station. That spread means we quote everything here: single door replacements, whole-house re-glazes, conservatory roof replacements and full extensions.

Whatever the job, the same team of eight does it. Every one of them has 20 to 25 or more years of experience, they arrive in sign-written vans and uniform, and the tiled warm roofs are built by us as a Eurocell approved tile installer.

Rugeley is around a half-hour drive north from our Tamworth base via Lichfield and the A51, and it has been part of our regular coverage since we started in January 2015. Surveys are booked in the normal week and quotes follow the next working day.

Etching Hill and the higher ground

Exposed elevations that take the weather off the Chase. Sealing and packing quality matters more here than almost anywhere we work.

Brereton and the older town

Mixed-age property with non-standard openings, deep reveals and cills that have taken decades of Staffordshire rain.

Mid-century estates

Large runs of semis and detached houses on their second generation of glazing, now misting and draughty.

Newer development

Recent housing where builder-standard doors and units are the first thing owners want upgraded.

Local property, local problems

What Rugeley's position actually does to your windows

Between the Chase and the Trent, Rugeley property deals with a specific combination of exposure and damp. These are the faults that combination produces.

Wind-driven rain on west-facing elevations

Sustained rain driven off the Chase finds the weakest point of any installation. Where a frame was foamed rather than packed and sealed, water tracks in and the damage shows internally.

Persistent winter condensation

Damp valley air plus tired sealed units equals streaming windows every cold morning, then black mould on the reveals and cills.

Cills and trims past their life

Decades of weather split cills and lift trims. Replacing the glass but leaving the cill is a false economy we see regularly.

Cold, leaking conservatory roofs

Polycarbonate degrades, the bar seals fail and the room becomes unusable. A tiled warm roof takes the room back inside the heated house.

Non-standard openings in older Brereton property

Deep reveals and irregular openings need proper survey and made-to-measure frames, not a stock unit and a bag of foam.

Doors swollen, dropped or sticking

Damp conditions and heavy use are hard on hinges and multipoint locks. Once a door needs a shove and a lift, it is not just the door.

Our process

Five steps, the same on every job in Rugeley

Step 1

Free verbal quote

Call or send the form and we talk the job through. A verbal quote costs nothing. A written quote is £25, deducted from your invoice if you go ahead.

Step 2

Survey at your house

We come out, measure properly and look at the existing openings, lintels and cills rather than guessing from a doorstep glance.

Step 3

Fixed price, next day

Your price comes back the next working day. It is fixed. We have never added money to a job once it has started.

Step 4

Manufacture and fit

Frames are made in Eurocell, Rehau or Smarts profile, then fitted by our own team of eight in sign-written vans and full uniform.

Step 5

Guarantee registered

The installation is registered for a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee through IWA, covering the workmanship and the frames.

Questions from Rugeley

Rugeley: straight answers

Do you cover Rugeley?
Yes. Rugeley, Brereton, Etching Hill and the surrounding villages are part of our regular coverage, alongside Lichfield, Burntwood, Fradley, Tamworth, Sutton Coldfield, Shenstone, Little Aston and Armitage.
How quickly can you reach Rugeley?
It is roughly a half-hour run north from Tamworth via Lichfield, so Rugeley surveys are booked into our normal working week. The written quote comes back the next working day after the survey.
Do you charge more because Rugeley is further out?
No. We price the job, not the postcode. A verbal quote is free and a written quote is £25, deducted from your invoice if you proceed.
Can you do emergency work in Rugeley?
We are an installation company rather than an emergency call-out service. Ring 07597 125590 during our hours (Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm, Saturday 10am to 2pm) and we will tell you honestly what we can do.
My conservatory is freezing: can it be fixed?
Usually, yes. Replacing the glazed or polycarbonate roof with an insulated tiled warm roof puts the room back inside the thermal envelope of the house. We build those roofs ourselves as a Eurocell approved tile installer.
What guarantee do I get?
A 10-year insurance-backed guarantee through IWA covering the workmanship and the frames. We are Assured registered, the competent persons scheme equivalent to FENSA and Certass, and carry £10,000,000 public liability insurance.
How long are lead times to Rugeley?
Plan on a minimum of 10 weeks from order, longer during busy periods. You get the honest timescale before you commit.
How do I pay?
Cash or bank transfer only. We do not take credit cards and we do not offer finance. Deposits vary with the size and type of job.
Will the price change once work starts?
No. Every quote is fixed and we have never added money to a job after starting it.
Do you take commercial work in Rugeley?
Yes, we handle commercial glazing and door installations as well as domestic work.
